Rishi Karpur: An undergraduate researcher dedicated to exploring and learning about different areas of the biomedical sciences.

As a student at the University of Florida, majoring in Biochemistry, I have always been attracted to the health sciences as well as gaining an understanding of the human body as a whole. My coursework, research experience, as well as volunteering have enabled me to gain a better understanding of the health professions and will hopefully lead me to becoming a future healthcare professional.

Effects of Sex and Ovarian Hormone Status on Executive functioning in Aging in FBN Rats

Research Focus: The focus of this research is to investigate the cognitive, behavioral, biochemical, and physiological change that occur to aged female rats after they have been ovariectomized. This creates an anlogous example that can be studied and demonstrate correlations with altered behavioral, cognitive, biochemical, and physiological differences of human females as they age and undergo menopause.
Project Responsibilities: As an undergraduate researcher, I will be running behavioral protocols for the aforementioned aged female rats. After the behavior is complete, I will help with select data analyses,, performing biochemical tests on post-mortem brains ex vivo, and helping to complete a research paper on the entire process.
